The commonwealth of Pennsylvania is set to raise tax on gasoline by thirty cents, while already having the highest tax or one of the highest in the nation. Meanwhile, those involved in shale exploration and oil are getting off free and are not taxed at this point.
It makes good sense...tax those who can least afford it, so they are saying. Other taxes and fees are set to drastically rise. This is supposed to fix roads and bridges and fund public transportation. It sounds good. Everyone knows that the majority of the money generated will be spent in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Not many areas in Pennsylvania have public transportation. Much will go to the turnpike. How many people in Pennsylvania actually use that? At any rate, those using public transportation should pay for it as those who use the turnpike.
Property taxes in Pennsylvania are very high and seniors never own their homes and are at the mercy of those individuals who want to raise school budgets and build multimillion dollar schools -- all that have declining enrolment, and students who really are not learning despite the fact that teachers are paid well.Huge teacher lifelong pensions are about to hit the PA taxpayers as well.
Thanks to the federal government prices for utilities are going up so that alternative energies can be promoted. It sounds good too except that people cannot afford those alternative energy devices. PA does not tax food and clothing nor medicine which is great but why not raise the sales tax from its current 6% to 7 or 8 on everything else/ Oh no, that might hurt all those who are considered poor--so PA will continue to punish seniors and others who are
barely making it on small pensions and to whom the federal government will give an increase of 1.5% for social security and probably a hundred times that to members of congress who have such a meager salary. But who really cares?
